Burt Bacharach Has Passed Away At Age 94

“Never be ashamed to write a melody that people remember.”

The legendary composer and songwriter, Burt Bacharach, has passed away today at the age of 94. He is best known for writing some of the most beloved hits of the 60s, 70s, and beyond with his writing partner, Hal David.

Bacharach/David not only wrote the Carpenters’ first No. 1 hit, ‘Close to You,’ but also “Baby it’s You,” which was initially popularized by The Beatles, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” and of course the “Bacharach/David Medley.”

Among his long list of hits with other artists were songs like “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” “A House Is Not A Home,” “Alfie,” “This Guy’s In Love With You,” “Always Something There To Remind Me,” and “I Say A Little Prayer For You.” He worked closely with Dionne Warwick on songs like “Do You Know The Way to San Jose,” “Wishin’ and Hopin’,” and “Walk On By.”

Burt Bacharach was also a great friend and supporter of Karen and Richard Carpenter’s success- When he heard the duo performing “I’ll Never Fall in Love again” at a benefit concert following the Hollywood premiere of the film ‘Hello Dolly,’ Bacharach invited them to open for his show at the Century Plaza Hotel in Hollywood on February 27, 1970. This was before the duo was known worldwide. Richard Carpenter has often cited Bacharach in reference to the Carpenters’ main influences, aka “The Three B’s”: The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and of course, Burt Bacharach.

He surely will be missed, and never forgotten for the incomparable legacy he has left behind.
